Objectives:

• To deepen children's understanding of traditional customs associated with the Dragon Boat Festival.
• To allow children to experience the traditional method of wrapping rice dumplings, a symbolic festival food.
• To enable children to experience the fun and excitement of dragon boat paddling.
• To introduce children to the functions and characteristics of Chinese herbs commonly used in scented sachets, such as mugwort.
• To encourage children to express filial piety and inherit traditional Chinese virtues by presenting handmade scented sachets to their parents.

Activity Description:

• A variety of group games and art activities are designed for each grade—such as dragon boat racing, rice dumpling wrapping, and scented sachet crafting—allowing children to explore the culture and customs of the Dragon Boat Festival through hands-on learning.
• Teachers share the origins of the Dragon Boat Festival, followed by a professional instructor demonstrating the ingredients and steps of wrapping rice dumplings. Children then wrap their own dumplings to enjoy during snack time the next day, learning how this traditional festive treat is made while sharing the joy of eating together with classmates.
• Teachers guide children in using their handcrafted dragon boats of various sizes for exciting racing activities, giving them hands-on experience with the fun of traditional dragon boat paddling.
• Children are encouraged to make scented sachets using mugwort, discovering the unique characteristics of traditional Chinese herbs while presenting their creations as heartfelt blessings to their parents, learning and practicing the virtue of filial piety.
